Hitchens Gets Slammed by Craig

January 5, 2010

What we have here is a blunder for Hitchens, how cannot get over the fact that the church is not power-hungry.  He seems to have a terrible misunderstanding of Christian doctrine.  I truly love how he botches Dostoevsky and slams Heaven as an amusement park…he is classically placating to people’s sense of justice.  I wonder when people will realize that Hitchens is nothing more than an overrated journalist who labels himself a New Atheist when really he just hates God.

William Lane Craig Response…

December 14, 2009

Some have requested me to update them on Craig’s response to Richard Dawkins refusal to debate him in an open forum.  The above was take prior – I believe – to the recent remarks of Dawkins, which make’s the New Atheist’s response all the more conflicting.  As you remember Dawkins claimed that he would not debate a creationist or any such sort, but it appears that Craig made it clear he was not debating on creationism, but merely the philosophy of science.  Dawkins, being the sour-puss that he is, replied that he would not debate any Christian who did not hold high office.  Interesting.  Craig is wishing to debate someone with a first-order knowledge of science, it may be an unfair fight to debate about a second-order issue.  However, Dawkins has opened himself up to it by discussing things ‘about’ science rather then discussing it first-order.  It seems I digress to my earlier point that Dawkins wants to have his cake and eat it too.

Dawkins Picks up the Mantel but Refuses the Responsibility

December 12, 2009

Dawkins, are you serious?  “I do not take on Creationists, and I don’t take on people who’s only claim to fame is that they are professional debaters.”  Aside from bucking the question, he is essentially claiming that he will not take on anyone like himself.  Dawkins didn’t become famous because of his biological work, he became famed because he started debating people who weren’t versed in the art of rhetoric.  The audience member who asked the question, even admitted that Dawkins was renowned for his apologetical expertise, likewise Craig is his contemporary in every respect.  It seems Dawkins is clinging to his cowardice.  Of course our good friend Mr. Loftus  weighs in:

I suspect Dawkins is merely mocking Craig. He surely knows who Craig is by now. He’s using the now famous Courtier’s Reply in response. Everyone knows that Dawkins does not have a philosophical/theological background so he would probably lose such a debate (at least in the minds of most Christians), just as Christopher Hitchens lost his debate with Craig, especially since Craig is a master debater

Now let me get this straight…’everyone knows that Dawkins does not have philosophical/theological background’.  Funny seems the audience member believes Dawkins is the leading apologizer for Atheism – a form of philosophy.  Last time I checked Craig, when debating his opponents, tries his best to use strict philosophy rather then theology.  Seems there is a contradiction between what Loftus thinks Dawkins is and how the rest of the intellectual community perceives him.  Loftus if you go around debating bishops and other members of the church publicly on an issue, you can’t be choosy, you’ve declared yourself a philosopher.

This is the New Atheism? Seriously?

December 10, 2009

Today I was musing over John W. Loftus’s blogsite.  Apparently he was a believer and now he considers himself a ‘known’ atheist, a little bit under the gravitas of Dawkins and Hitchens.  Moving on, he recently claimed in an article concerning the ban of religious Christmas songs in schools during a court order: “they [Christians] want to ignorantly claim that atheism is a religion”.  Now, he doesn’t particularly state where this claim was made or why it’s ignorant, but he isn’t the most consistent atheist I’ve read, perhaps that is why he is only ‘known’ and not ‘popular’.  So I challenge him to describe what is so ignorant about such a claim?  ‘Mr.’ Loftus – I noticed you didn’t bother with the PhD – could you please explain the ignorance?  I’ll even take any of your fellow disciples’ – who cling to your blog like a wet rag – responses.  O, furthermore this guy also has the stones to suggest that William Lane Craig is afraid of debating him; nothing like egomaniacal atheist to start your morning right.
